This La Cocina micro-lot coffee comes from the Finca La Bastilla in the Jinotega region, the primary coffee producing region of Nicaragua. It’s a 100% Arabica of the Red Catuai variety. At La Bastilla coffee is produced in micro-lots coming from the different producing areas, and therefore focusing on quality and traceability.

La Bastilla sponsors an agricultural technical high school at the farm, which currently hosts 50 students of poor coffee farmers in the area. This school runs 7 small businesses, one of them is a nice little Eco-Lodge in the middle of the coffee plantation.

Despite a difficult period due to the devastation brought by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, now Nicaragua offers a panel of very high quality coffees and most of the producers, like La Bastilla adhere and are certified by the Rainforest Alliance, promoting a responsible, clean and sustainable coffee growing
